Management of The Walkway School (TWS) carried out an extensive field trip for community engagement in Taluka Islamkot and Taluka Diplo of District Tharparkar, last week. During the visit, facilities provided at The Walkway School’s facility in Village Jhampo were reviewed as per routine. Routine checks of progress and other technical aspects have remained a great norm since the inception of TWS. Moreover, The Walkway School’s management also visited and engaged the community at Village New Dhilyanchho (UC Diplo, Taluka Diplo, District Tharprakar) for a possible intervention to adopt the village’s only school and build a facility there.

With a total household number going over 250, the said village has only a hut made of tree sticks as a school to provide shelter to all the 60 kids who are not giving up on education even in such severe conditions. The Walkway School has not only decided to build them proper classrooms, but has also promised to provide the village with a solar-supported water pump to help cope with the water drought as well as all the possible strategic and monetary support for the educational concerns of the community.

Once the intervention of The Walkway School reaches its final stage, the village will have its own primary school with two classrooms, multiple teachers, solar-supported energy and a water supply. The outcome of the intervention is expected to result in increased enrollment of children and enhancement in the provision of quality education as per TWS’s vision in alignment with SDG-4 Quality Education.
The new facility, second in the Tharparkar region, is likely to be completed by early December 2021. The facility after its completion will have the capacity to accommodate a total number of 140 students at a single time.
