The Walkway School in Khetlari – A Silver Lining

In an area most underprivileged, in a province most affected by the recent flood calamities in Pakistan, where dreams as fundamental as quality education are buried in the scorching desert incorporated with patriarchal mindsets hindering girls from going to schools, The Walkway School has established a building with proper infrastructure and qualified teachers. Not only that but has also pledged to initiate a solar-supported energy and water pump system for the people of Tharparkar.

The construction of The Walkway School in the Khetlari area of the Tharparker district began in December 2022. With untiring efforts, generous donations, unconditional love, and consistent willpower of The Walkway School team, a dream has finally come true. Access to free and quality education for the underprivileged but talented and hardworking kids of Sindh has now become a tangible reality. In alignment with the SDG4 as per the UN 2030 agenda, the walkway school is providing free and quality education to over a hundred children in Khetlari village, the majority of the student body being girls.

The education system, the literacy rate, and the infrastructure in remote areas of Sindh have always been in shambles-from the severe scarcity of food and basic resources to the violation of fundamental human rights of good health and education-with the Thar district suffering the most throughout the years. The Walkway School has already established two school buildings with running water and volunteer teachers in the deserted part of the province and has recently completed another project in Khetlari village, aiming for further development of a sustainable system of clean water for the people of the village.

The walkway school has been a silver lining for the underprivileged children of Sindh, for more than four years now, facilitating hundreds of them, helping them get academic education free of cost, and fostering their artistic talents by providing art classes as well. With the same consistent support, hard work, and God’s will, The Walkway School is focused on enrolling around a thousand students in the Khetlari school in Tharparkar, the majority of which will be females, in the next 5 to 8 years. For children who are the future of our society, quality education is the utmost priority of The Walkway School.
